Together, our team has over 30 years of combined industry experience.

Vincent Yu
Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor

Vincent earned his BCom degree in Finance from the University of British Columbia and also holds the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation and the Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI) designation (www.fcsi.ca).  He also holds his Level 2 life insurance license and options license.  He brings more than 23 years of industry experience as an Investment Advisor. 

In his personal time, Vincent enjoys travelling and many recreational activities with his wife and two children.  He also stays involved in the community through organizations such as Sauder Business School, Hong Kong Canada Business Association, Canucks Autism Network and Junior Diabetes Research Foundation. 

One of Vincent's passions outside of work is to be a Mentor for business students and recent Sauder graduates in the Sauder Business School Mentorship Program.  He truly enjoys helping others.

Thomas began his career in the wealth management industry in 2016 after completing the Finance diploma program at BCIT. Prior to joining Richardson Wealth in April 2021, he worked as an Investment Associate at National Bank Financial for 4 years.

Thomas is fully licensed, having completed the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), Conduct And Practices Handbook Course (CPH), Wealth Management Essentials Course (WME), and Advanced Investment Strategies Course (AIS) through the Canadian Securities Institute. He is currently working towards his Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation. He is also options licensed.

Thomas was born in Madrid, Spain before his family moved back to Vancouver where he has spent most of his life. Outside of the office, he keeps active and you can find him either on the golf course or in the gym. He also enjoys travelling and spending time at his family cabin in Howe Sound.

Additionally, their research combined with our team’s core investment process drives our asset allocation, portfolio sector’s over and under weights and stock selection.

With the Asset Management Group’s guidance, getting the big picture right and positioning portfolios appropriately for our client’s individual circumstances helps our team build and protect their long-term wealth. At the core, the group’s principles focus on strategy while our team focuses on advice. This invaluable partnership aims to help clients to be tactically opportunistic given market conditions while reducing volatility and constantly managing risk.

Craig Basinger is the Chief Market Strategist at Purpose Investments. With over 25 years of investment experience, Craig combines an educational foundation in economics & psychology with years of experience in both fundamental and quantitative research. A long term student of the markets, Craig’s thoughts and insights can be seen in Market Ethos publications and is a regular contributor on BNN. 

Craig and his team bring a transparent and cost efficient approach to investment management. The team provides asset allocation OCIO services and directly manages over $1 billion in assets. The team manages dividend mandates, quantitative risk reduction strategies and asset allocation services.

Derek Benedet CMT, CFP

As a Portfolio Manager at Purpose Investments Derek plays a major role in the ongoing management and execution of the group’s investment mandates. He has worked for the past seventeen years in the investment industry with experience at Richardson Wealth, CIBC Wood Gundy, TD Wealth Management as well as GMP Securities Inc. He graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) degree with a finance concentration. Derek is a Chartered Market Technician (CMT), a designation obtained through expertise in technical analyses and is granted by the Market Technicians Association. He is also a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) as well as a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM).

Derek brings a specialty in trading, technical analyses and behavioral finance. His unique investment approach combines a blend of technical analysis, quantitative finance and fundamental analysis. Paying careful attention to market technicals, Derek brings a unique aspect to new idea generation and risk management in portfolio management. Derek believes that managing risk and being opportunistic given market conditions are key tenants of our achieving long-term returns.

An graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce, and is a CFA charter holder.  An has been in the investment industry for over twenty years and has worked for Canadian and Global financial institutions along the way.  As Vice-President, Investments Services and Proposals, An is responsible for the firm’s product research platform for public funds and manages the investment proposals and RFP process.

An started her career on the investment custody side where she specialized in portfolio transition management dealing with Canada’s largest pension plans and investment managers.  Prior to joining Richardson Wealth, An was Vice President, Products & Services at Macquarie Private Wealth, and was responsible for the firm’s fee-based programs including the advisor managed discretionary, third party managed discretionary, and non-discretionary platforms. Prior to joining Macquarie, An was an analyst for the consulting group at CIBC Asset Management where she was part of the manager research team that was responsible for the sub-advisory relationships for over $110 billion in assets under management.  On the manager research team, she covered Canadian equity, fixed income and Global fixed income investment managers.

With a 360-degree backdrop of the investment management business, including custody, transition management, and portfolio management, An brings best practice ideas and solutions to the investment team.  As a result of her dealings with both the end client and the investment manager, An has a balanced, and disciplined perspective to investment management with a focus on portfolio implementation, on-going monitoring, and risk-management.
