Meet Our Team

Tyler Steele BA, CFA, FEA
Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor

Tyler Steele is a senior advisor on the SEKO Wealth Advisors team. He manages client portfolios on a discretionary basis, using a refined process he developed through years of experience and his commitment to lifelong learning. Tyler has a unique approach to communications that he believes is critical for trusted and rewarding relationships. The language he has developed allows for transparent and open conversations. That’s true not only with his clients, but also with the other professionals who serve them, including accountants, lawyers, trust officers and family therapists. Having open engagements in a multi-disciplinary advisory model ensures an accurate and complete client picture. This is fundamental to the success of his clients, who are entrepreneurs, corporate executives, retirees, charitable foundations and endowments.

Tyler’s goal is to discover what is important to his clients and to help them realize their financial vision. He is equally committed to generational family education, which is where his language has had a real impact. Tyler facilitates discussions within households, or involving multi-generational clients, to establish and fine-tune family values and mission statements. Tyler believes this approach ensures that the professionals serving the clients have a clear view of their principles and objectives, and that clients stay focused on who they are and strive to be.

For business family dynamics, he helps clients to vocalize where to draw the lines between business and family, or how to avoid the family dinner becoming an impromptu business meeting. In complex situations, such as planning for succession or wealth transition, Tyler helps families articulate each member’s unique perspectives. This ensures that everyone is better informed and creates a mutual understanding.

Tyler began his career in the financial industry in 1999. He has a BA in Economics from the University of British Columbia and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. His other professional designations include Family Enterprise Advisor, which he obtained through the UBC Sauder School of Business and Certified Financial Planner. He also holds a Life Insurance License.

Giving back is fundamental to his own family values. He and his team support several local charities including Potluck Café Society, a Downtown Eastside Vancouver charity.

Tyler’s competitive outlet is squash. Like any proud Vancouverite, he also skis hard. Above all, family is number one. Spending time with his wife Julie, their three young children and the family dog is where he derives his greatest joy.

Tim Engelbert CIM
Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor

Tim brings 20 years of global investment experience, a high degree of technical expertise, and in-depth analytical skills to our practice. As a portfolio manager, Tim is responsible for allocating capital, on a discretionary basis, to meet client’s risk and return objectives. With an ongoing focus on risk management, Tim handles our research inflows and analytics and helps build and manage client portfolios. He is responsible for the implementation of our team’s tactical asset allocation and tax-conscious strategies. In addition, he also champions our team’s analytics relating to alternative asset classes.

A Vancouverite by birth, Tim spent seven years working in financial services in London, England and before that, in the United States. While in a senior role within Citigroup’s equity derivative business, Tim built technical skills across a wide range of financial products. In addition to managing a complex book of financial instruments, he also priced, executed and was a market maker for Citigroup’s European derivative franchise. His technical insight is built on a solid foundation of risk management and an ability to work efficiently under pressure. Prior to Citigroup, Tim worked in Risk Management at ING Barings in London and for Wells Fargo Bank in the U.S. where he supported a team working with high-net-worth individuals, corporations and institutional money managers. Tim studied Mathematics and Economics at the University of Victoria.

On a personal note, Tim is married, and has two young children. When not chasing after kids, Tim enjoys the outdoors and a wide range of sports including golf, skiing and mountain biking.

Neil Kumar CIM®, FEA
Portfolio Manager, Investment Advisor

Neil Kumar is a Portfolio Manager and Investment Advisor with SEKO Wealth Advisors. The cornerstone of his mature business is wealth planning with a focus on capital and tax planning. But it’s the strong relationships he has built and nurtured that are foundational to it all. He believes his integrity as an advisor and as a contributing member of the community is instrumental to those relationships and the most important lever in his practice.

The team’s motto is “small promises made and kept”. This is more than a slogan; it’s a philosophy that builds integrity and leads to trust. His view is that if his team can’t deliver on the minutia, clients will have no confidence they can tackle the big picture. His practice is about creating unwavering excellence through exemplary client experience.

Though based in Vancouver, Neil treats the community as essentially a small town where word spreads fast. That word must be glowing. He is known broadly for doing exactly what he says. This high-touch approach helps him to build peace of mind with clients, allowing them to focus on what matters the most to them rather than on short-term market trends. A self-proclaimed markets fanatic with a knack for economics, Neil sees his value as helping clients enjoy the wealth they have accumulated and be the steward of that wealth for future generations, not to score homeruns.

In 2011, Neil joined Macquarie Private Wealth, Richardson Wealth’s predecessor firm. Prior to that, he spent 14 years at HSBC Securities. Neil studied Finance at Simon Fraser University and holds the Chartered Investment Manager designation. In 2021, Neil earned the Family Enterprise Advisor designation. He is a member of the Responsible Investment Association and has obtained the Responsible Investment Specialist designation.

Neil’s Vancouver roots run deep, as does his community participation. He is an active supporter of the SPCA, BC Children’s Hospital and Potluck Café Society. Neil derives great joy experiencing B.C.'s diverse wilderness ecosystems and it’s in the backcountry where he clears his mind hiking and camping year around. He and his wife, two children and dogs live in Langley, B.C.

Rory also leads our thorough tax reporting activities throughout the year, to make our clients’ annual tax filing experience as seamless as possible. Rory has gained valuable experience at a number of different financial institutions, he very much values the independent and open architecture platform that Richardson Wealth provides.
