Hilliard brings over 46 years of experience in the investment industry, having worked as a stockbroker, financial advisor, portfolio manager and author. As of May 1, 2025, he has transitioned into a less demanding role, focusing on business development and client relations at MacBeth MacLeod Partners.

In this new chapter, Hilliard plans to dedicate more time to travel, golf, skiing, and learning Spanish. He is also considering writing another book. He continues to share his insights through the Weekend Note blog, where he writes on a wide range of topics including investment trends, macroeconomics, the energy transition and other subjects that capture his interest.

Hilliard is the author of When the Bubble Bursts: Surviving the Canadian Real Estate Crash (Second Edition, Dundurn 2018), a prescient analysis of Canada's housing market. His prediction of a correction in residential real estate appears to be materializing - by 2025, home prices in the Greater Toronto Area have declined by more than 20% from their 2022 peak. He expects further declines, ultimately restoring affordability for young families.

He resides in Edmonton with his wife Nancy, and enjoys spending time with their two young grandchildren.
