Susan Brown worked with several investment advisors during her long career as a successful entrepreneur, but none has proven to be as intuitive, attentive and committed to her values as Will Mactaggart.
A long-time community volunteer, Susan first got to know Will during her term on the board of directors of the Guelph Community Foundation, where Will was helping manage the foundation’s assets. “I was struck by his commitment to the community. I felt I always knew Will and understood him,” she says.
Susan has worked with Will since 2015 and likes that The Mactaggart-Hryn Team is part of a large corporate investment firm, but that they’re still small and local. It was important to her that she always have access to Will for advice, as well as rely on the rest of the team when required.
“I was so impressed with everyone there as soon as I moved over. I was very pleased,” she says. “You can tell Will is a detail person and I like that. He’s straightforward and kind. Sometimes he has had to give me tough news and he’s always honest and calming.”
Susan especially admires that, from day one, Will treated her respectfully. As a female business owner and now as an older single woman retiree, she is sensitive to being treated as an equal. “Will treats me respectfully as an older woman while always involving me in every decision. I’ve never felt less than who I am when I speak with Will,” she says.
As a philanthropist, she also values his advice when it comes to her giving. “I tend to be generous with my funds,” she notes, “and Will he is very helpful in guiding my decisions because he knows my preferences and gives me suggestions to do what I can while ensuring my financial interests are intact. It can be easy to give it all away!” she laughs.
For Susan, it all comes down to relationship.
“I trust Will. I am comfortable with his opinion. I believe what he tells me.”
