As the driving force behind the practice, Dave Chipman brings an in-depth understanding of the markets and a sensitivity to the dynamics of wealth into every client interaction. It’s those sensibilities and instincts that have made him a trusted advisor to a select group of professionals, business owners and high net worth families.
Seeing his father’s and brother’s love for their careers in the financial sphere, Dave was inspired to join the industry after graduating from Marian University in Wisconsin with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Accounting. He took a post at Merrill Lynch at the height of the tech bubble of 2000 and spent the first two years in a crashing market, all while Merrill Lynch was acquired by CIBC. It was an education in the dynamics of market volatility, one that prepared him for the seismic shift the financial services sector was about to move through.
In 2008, while at CIBC Wood Gundy, Dave saw the opportunity to best align his interest with those of his clients and became a discretionary portfolio manager. His father Art Chipman joined him as an Associate Investment Advisor and Dave launched his first discretionary model in June 2010. He’s been helping clients reach their goals this way ever since.
Drawn to Richardson Wealth’s emphasis on entrepreneurial autonomy and wide-reaching resources, Dave brought his practice to the firm in 2020. In addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Accounting, Dave has his CIM® (Chartered Investment Manager) designation.
Beyond the office, Dave loves spending time with his wife and two kids. He’s passionate about all sports, particularly hockey and golf. He’s also a proud graduate of St. Paul’s High School in Winnipeg.
