After earning a B.Comm. in Finance in 1987 from UBC and an LL.B. with a Concentration in Taxation in 1990 from the University of Western Ontario, I was called to the Ontario Bar in 1992.
For the next several years, I worked as a lawyer in Toronto with the Immigration and Refugee Board of the federal government and then as a Senior Tax Specialist with the accounting firm of Deloitte and Touche. Having enjoyed financial matters at Deloitte, I switched to the investment industry and returned to Vancouver to work as an Investment Advisor with CIBC Wood Gundy for seven years and at HSBC Securities for nine years.
In the fall of 2012, I joined Macquarie Private Wealth, which was acquired by Richardson Wealth (formerly Richardson GMP) in 2013. To enhance my credentials, I have completed my options license and Level 1 of the In-Depth Tax Course from the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
