Tim Conlin is the “big idea” guy. Strategy is his forté, where he devotes most of his brain cells. Part of seeing the big picture also means zeroing in on the details. As discretionary advisors, Tim and The Conlin Group handpick every client’s portfolio. That requires an intimate understanding of each security selected. What drives Tim is the balance between big picture strategy and the details — the excitement that comes from finding investments that align perfectly with a client’s long-term vision.
After obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan, Tim started his career as a Chartered Accountant at an international accounting firm, building extensive knowledge on investment and tax planning. Wanting to connect with and serve individuals and families, Tim transitioned to wealth management in 1994. He became a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder, and joined a major financial institution as a discretionary Portfolio Manager and Investment Advisor. He was an early adopter of the discretionary portfolio management approach, and has been managing client assets this way for over 24 years.
The Conlin Group is a multi-generational, six-member team committed to excellence in the advisory field. Tim’s team is devoted to helping their clients’ children and grandchildren achieve their own financial success and freedom.
In one of the largest bank-owned wealth management firms in Canada, Tim applied his extensive industry experience, and passion for mentorship and coaching, by leading one of Calgary’s biggest branches and then serving as Regional Director.
Tim is active in organizations that support the development of student athletes as future leaders: Power to Change, Athletes in Action, University of Saskatchewan, and Camosun College. He has worked with his church community in collaboration with international relief organizations to inspire economic independence and improve the future for families in developing countries. This effort has led Tim to work on projects in Southeast Asia and Africa.
While investing is his life’s work, his true love is spending time with his family. He also enjoys reading, researching, and perfecting the nuanced art of smoking meat.
